Wastelands by Jack Porter

2.0

Functionally complete story using some light isekai and wuxia elements but fundamentally lacking depth in the characters, world and narrative structure. The story feels like its going through a checklist on the "Hero's Journey", the characters feel very two-dimensional with the protagonist being fairly unrelatable and the ladies of the cast lacking in vibrancy and depth.

Despite that, the three book series does have a definite idea of where it is going and at least feels mostly consistent within itself, with a definite "end-point" at the finale of book three. Not the worst way to spend a night reading in bed, but a long way from being in my top 100.
