A Woman Overwhelmed: Finding God in the Messes of Life by Hayley DiMarco

5.0

As a self-proclaimed do it all, this is just the book I needed desperately. I feel as if the author wrote this book just to speak to my individual soul. "A woman overwhelmed," that is precisely who I am. This book was such a blessing to my life. This book is what I needed, and it might just be what you, yourself need.

The author is a fantastic writer, one who uses a perfect combination of teaching and humor. It creates a book that is enjoyable and impactful. I found her writing reflective and super encouraging.

She was able to bring faith into a perspective of our lives. About how we are meant to be overwhelmed by God, not our lives and how we need a Savior in our lives. She guides us into understanding the methodology behind why we get overwhelmed. It is merely the human desire of wanting to control our family and, well, everything.

One thing I enjoyed was that she encourages the reader to be honest about failures, and not act like we have it all together. Putting on a fake front is not a benefit, and it is a severe detriment to others. As women, we often compare ourselves, and comparisons lead to feelings of failure and shame.

The topic of control was something that she reflected on quite a bit. About how people make her life miserable when she isn't in control of them. The quote below was one of my favorites.

“Making God's will more important to you than your own is the passageway from complaint to contentment.”

The author DiMarco also was sweet enough to include personal thoughts that you could ponder at the end of each chapter. While the views weren't always groundbreaking, they were exciting and made it feel entirely personal. Sometimes books like this feel super preachy or not applicable to real life; this one is completely different in that aspect.

I feel like this book is so essential for every woman, in every walk of life to read. It will be an excellent gift for a woman who feels completely overwhelmed.
