This book was gripping and stayed with me throughout every break I had to take while listening to it, whether for a few hours or a few weeks on a trip. The characters were so rich and deep, so passionate for their culture and community. It made my heart wrench, break, soar, everything in between. The author, and thus the narrator, put such thoughtful care into describing such complicated and sometimes ugly truths, and made me feel so deeply.
Definitely one to check content warnings for, as this delves into all sorts of potentially triggering topics.
But I can tell that I will be sitting with this story and it’s people on my heart and mind for a long time.
