Okay, I'm torn here.

A few positives:
- in terms of writing style, it was extremely easy to read and fast to get through
- the world building is unique, and I genuinely enjoyed it

Where issues happen:
- it's advertised as adult fantasy, but it is 100% YA. I tried to then read it as YA but was just struggling
- the author used almost every type of mythological sea creature imaginable but with almost zero descriptors or explanations so I ended up with a bunch of just mental gaps and i wasn't about to stop reading to Google these things.
- the complete blend of so may different Asian cultures I could see as an attempt to build a mosaic in this world but instead of coming across as an artistic depiction of multiculturalism it comes across as a melting pot and that is NOT good.
- I genuinely didn't mind the POVs except Nami's. She annoyed the crap out of me. Absolutely was a teenaged idiot with zero common sense.

To be honest, i got just under halfway and DNF. I'm not saying the book isn't worth finishing, but it's just not something my brain is happy with right now.

I may revisit in the future.
