Maigret and the Loner by Georges Simenon

2.0

“That evening he didn’t watch television and went to bed at 10.” The last line of this installment is a good of a emblem as any for ho-hum this story is. The initial setup is good: a loner who many years ago shrugged off his far more successful/privileged life and is murdered two decades later. But the break in the case is irritatingly independent of maigret doing anything to deserve it, and the remainder of the story features some really obvious/annoying late introduced characters and setups.
