Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli

This book is so deeply rooted in its nostalgia and dreamy remembrance that halfway through I complained to someone that it isn't properly YA at all, as it's not told by a kid, it's told by an adult man who is remembering. Lo and behold that actually IS the case, within the story. So much of this story would make no sense to a kid, and in fact seems really uninteresting/pointless when read through that lens. As an adult reading it, it was more charming, but it was still far-fetched and ultimately felt hollow.
