This felt utterly unique. It was beautifully written, many props to the translator--the language was so evocative and haunting, the setting of the castle in the forest was magical! I loved the depths of the relationships between the characters and the meditations on friendship, love, and class. The only detractor were colonialist themes/descriptions of non-European individuals.
