The Alchemist Who Survived Now Dreams of a Quiet City Life, Vol. 2 (Light Novel) by Usata Nonohara

5.0

A great continuation to the first novel. While the first volume was very character interaction driven, this book keeps exactly that while also making it more narrative focused and creating even more world building than before.

This volume introduces somewhat of an antagonist, but I was delighted to see that he was much more nuanced than anticipated. It gets surprisingly dark, so people who are feint of heart should watch out, but it's not excessive and just enough to paint a picture the author wants you to have.

I have to say, I wasn't a huge fan of the Labyrinth parts, as they were exactly the opposite of what I enjoyed about this book, but they're few and far between, so they never overstay their welcome. In this book they're the reason for some important plot points.

Apart from that, the volume keeps on delivering great character interactions, introducing more lovely characters who have great chemistry with others and just being all around great. I absolutely adored this book, and I'm excited for more.
