I love historical western romances, and I had never read a mail-order bride novel. I was pleasantly surprised. The Eureka City Bride was entertaining, fast-paced, and romantic.
This book takes place in Eureka City, Nevada, in the late 1860s. Marshal Reese Kelly, as a leader in the community, decides it is time to marry. Secretly, Reese yearns for love and a family. Reese’s character is steadfast and has a solid moral compass. He would do anything for his loved ones. I enjoyed Reese’s character; he shone brightly from the page. Reese is the kind of man anyone would swoon over!
Vivien Fitzhugh is an ex-Pinkerton agent hunting for her best friend’s murderer. She marries Reese under false pretenses but quickly falls for the Marshal. Vivien is spunky, strong-willed, and can handle a gun! I enjoyed Vivien’s spirit and determination to work with her husband in a world where women had their place at home and were expected to play their part.
The romance was sweet and heart-warming. The couple’s passion was evident with just a kiss. Reese and Vivien worked well together, both professionally and romantically. The couple’s burgeoning love was well-written and believable.
The Eureka City Bride is the fourth book in The Marshal’s Mail Order Brides. The novel takes the reader on an exciting journey of action and love. The plot had twists and moved well. I enjoyed reading as the couple’s love story unfolded. This book is an excellent read for western lovers that crave a sweet romance with heart.
