Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco
4.0
Monsters were supposed to be scary and ugly. They weren’t supposed to hide behind friendly smiles and well-trimmed hair.
I’d like to remind each man who held such poor opinions of a woman that their beloved mothers were, in fact, women.
Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco is perfect for anyone looking to get into mystery or historical fiction. I was completely engaged in it, following the characters and the clue they were discovering that would lead them to the identity of Jack the Ripper. The reason this book is rated 4 stars instead of 5 is for the pure reason that from the first 3 chapters I already knew who Jack the Ripper was.
Character-wise I was completely in love with Audrey Rose Wadsworth and Thomas Creswell, them on their own and their banter with each other was a standout part of the book. Audrey Rose was the perfect main character in this type of world, a feminist who was breaking the rules of society for women at the time. And Thomas, who's intelligence and humor made him one of the best parts of the book.
I'm going to include some of my favorite quotes(some are spoilery)
"God had failed me. I’d prayed and prayed the way Mother always said I should, and for what? Death still claimed her in the end."
"Honestly, I couldn’t wait for them to be ready. Just because I studied cadavers didn’t mean I couldn’t appreciate beautiful garments."
"“First things first,” Aunt Amelia said, clapping her hands and ignoring me altogether. “Time to get rid of those disgusting blood-soaked garments. Then we’ll address the matter of your hair.” She scrunched her nose as if she were observing a rodent rummaging through rubbish. I cringed. My hair had been the last thing on my mind after finding a man dead. “Honestly, Audrey Rose, you’re far too pretty and too old to be running around like a tomboy,” she said. “Bring your needle and thread down after your bath; it’s high time we worked on your hope chest.”"
"My brother. My sweet, charming, beloved brother was Jack the Ripper."
CAWPILE Rating: 8.14/10
Stars: 4/5 Stars
Incredibly Enjoyable to read.

I dreamed of a day when girls could wear lace and makeup—or no makeup at all and don burlap sacks if they desired—to their chosen profession without it being deemed inappropriate.""God had failed me.
