I'm a slow reader and listener so almost never re read but I've gone straight back to the start to listen again. A beautiful and complex love story, a carefully constructed unfolding of the horrors of war and the first world war in particular and people's changing attitudes. Full of suspense in the second half.
The only theme I wish was dealt with in more detail was the experience of the working class soldiers and of women. It was brilliantly done when it was addressed. I just would have liked more David and Maud. But maybe that would have been to take away from the LGBT story at the heart of this.
