When people talk about the controversial and dark content of a book like Lolita you're expecting something horrid, albeit being told from an unreliable narrator. The way that Oates gets into the mind and behavior of someone who is at the receiving end of this "relationship", and also writes without any sugarcoating or trying to make light of something so twisted, made me sit and read in shock and many points of this book.
Weirdly enough, it's something I would recommend others to read.
Don't read Lolita, if you have then, read Beasts!
I would give it a 4.9 because it comes close to perfection of something so horrible, but that's not an option.
