Truthwitch by Susan Dennard

This wasn't my favorite book, but I did enjoy the characters and the story towards the end. I am excited for the next one.

What I liked:
I loved the world. I find it really interesting and have so many questions. How many kinds of witches, how does cleaving work, etc, etc. I want to know more and I hope the rest of the series expands on it.
I loved the two leading ladies. Always a fan of both badass ladies, and women supporting other women. No fighting over guys, no stupid drama, just strong ladies helping each other.
And not only are they badass, they're also so smart. Always a great pairing.

What I did not like:
Once or twice there was scenes between the male and female lead that get kind of racy and I just...it doesn't get that much, it's not Maas's writing style, but it was enough to leave me kinda uncomfortable, and since I read YA to avoid these kind of scenes, full blown or almost there, it's a little jarring to suddenly have them.
In general, the romance just felt awkward and forced. I could have done without it.
This book was really slow to start. I struggled to stay with it, and while I'm glad I did, I almost DNFed this book. It just took too long to get interesting, after that first chapter was kind of exciting it got really slow again.
