Wow, one of my favorite books I've read in a while. I absolutely adore fairytales, and this is a perfect blend of heavy folklore, a stubborn brilliant competent MC who is badass purely through knowledge, cozy welcoming characters that have depth and complexity enough to avoid being two dimensional, and just enough romance not to be the focus but enough to be heartwarming. I love the way this is written as well, the journal structure approach tends to be easily hit or miss, but Fawcett does it in a light narrative approach that flavors the story without getting in the way of it. The prose is just complex and academically stylized enough to be interesting without being overwhelming to the point of needing a dictionary every other page. This is like, special edition hardcover future multiple reread worthy for me; Heather Fawcett has made me an instant superfan.
