2.5

I hate to give this book such a low score, but the nostalgia factor is already giving it bonus points. I loved this book as an elementary schooler, and it inspired me back then to write many stories of my own. The writing is perfect for its demographic, and incredibly witty at times, but not for fans of character-driven stories. Events simply seem to happen to the Flock continually; they really can't catch a break. The characters themselves are endearing, and I enjoyed their dynamics. The weakest written is Fang, who I never felt had much going for him besides being "dark and mysterious." Regardless, I'll still be reading the next book because this one left so many questions unanswered.
