Dark of the Moon by John Sandford

4.0

I've read a few Virgil books and I never thought he would grow on me as much as Davenport has, but I think DARK OF THE MOON really did it for me in terms of starting to love Virgil.

I like how he has his own very unique way of doing things, from his personal connections to his colorful band t-shirts. And even though it sort of annoys me how much he flirts with any woman ever almost, he makes it work.

DARK SIDE OF THE MOON was a great thriller. It has all the twists and turns that I expect any Sanford novel to have, with a full set of characters that grow on you as you get further in the book.

I loved the Judd/Williamson family saga and drama, set amidst a small farming town where everyone knows everybody and all their secrets. Sanford did a great job at creating that atmosphere everyone from a small town knows exists, and the tension that arises when one of your own is taken unexpectedly.

I liked how messy the Judd family was as well, with all the lies and greed and secrets, and the simple fact that any single resident of the town could have committed the murder after the wrong Judd Sr. had done them. It made me want to keep reading and to want to see who was involved in the first death of the town and book.

All in all I really enjoyed this first Virgil novel. Sanford did a great job at setting him up as a likeable character for the series, and it is a joy when he pops up in a Davenport novel, or at least to me it is
