A strong, compelling, emotional novel based on real events I’d never heard of before. I feel like Perkins-Valdez did a wonderful job of portraying what happened to India and Erica and the entire Williams family and the people around them. I took my rating down half a star because I feel like the present-day timeline wasn’t as strong or as clear as the past timeline and I think I would have preferred if she had kept the present timeline toward the end of the book or even just left it out altogether as it doesn’t feel like it contributes much to the overall narrative. I would still highly recommend this book to basically anyone, especially in the current political climate and discussions about women’s reproductive rights in the aftermath or the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
