To Kill a Mockingbird: a graphic novel by Harper Lee

3.0

Rating: 3 stars

***Rating based on ADAPTATION not STORY***

I felt this was a very good adaptation of the original and did the story justice. I have never read the full version of Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird (as in the normal version) but from the graphic novel I got a really good grip on the story and I feel as deep an understanding as the text version would give (that's not to say that the regular book is not worth the read; I think it is a definite must read for anyone, including myself). I appreciated the illustrator's comments at the end which assured me that the text in the the graphic novel was taken directly from Lee's original To Kill a Mockingbird as much as possible, even to the point of including the racial slurs intended to cause contention in order to get the point across. And even the simple fact that Fred Fordham adapted and illustrated the graphic novel made it all the more significant.
