Heart-wrenching in the realest sense of the word, as in, my heart feels like it’s been wrenched out, wrung dry, and torn to pieces. In Memoriam contains some of the most harrowing, haunting descriptions of the atrocities of war alongside some of the most devastatingly stunning depictions of love and yearning that I’ve ever read.
I don’t know how long I stared into space once I finished reading. I still don’t know how to move on. I want to press it to my heart and hold it there forever, though I imagine it’ll never leave me anyway, even if I wanted it to.
It’s not as if I can form any actual coherent thoughts about this book, so I think I’ll just leave it at this for now.
