Fun book! Definitely got more interesting near the end—I struggled to stay focused at first.
The bits of romance were refreshing in their twists. There wasn’t really a “main” couple. I appreciated that Esther and Nicholas didn’t get together, and that Joanna and Collins only kissed pretty close to the end (and then nothing else happened until the last chapter). Esther and Pearl, of course, couldn’t do much for most of the book since Pearl was only present in the beginning, but it was sweet how that plot was wrapped up in the end.
Definitely recommend as a light, fantasy book with some queer and family themes.
