Gwendy's Button Box by Richard Chizmar, Stephen King

A compelling little fable with obvious shades of Richard Matheson and Ray Bradbury, this makes for a brisk enough read. I'm more curious about the gestation process here than anything else - was the initial idea King's? Chizmar's? Certain elements certainly smack of King (of *course* she has to give up sports to become a writer), but what was the collaboration process like overall?
