The Stone Raft by José Saramago

5.0

A wonderful rendering of magical realism, The Stone Raft is Saramago at his finest. Capturing humanity's mood amidst an almost impossible event, it tells the story of 4 (later 5) people who set out on a remarkable journey and their multitudinous interactions with the world and each other. A wonderful read, and a continued, rather remarkable writing style, overlooking convention, I would recommend this as the 3rd book to read, after Blindness, and Seeing. These books will acclimate you to his style and superb craftmanship of the written word.
