Those short stories were so interesting to give us an insight on everything that happened during the events of Starsight and Cytonic for the people of Detritus! I'll be honest though, I was particularly eager to read Jorgen's story and I was not disappointed.
I also loved how the 3 stories got linked together so flawlessly. It was more of a full book from 3 different perspectives.
FM was such a mysterious character I wasn't sure what to expect from her POV but she has become one of my favourite character of the series, one I rely with most so far. She is such an important member, with her empathy for the slugs (I love the slugs!!) and now as the main diplomat of Detritus!
Alanik annoyed me a bit at first, when she was basically accusing the humans if having held her hostage when that was not the case and then seeking their help. But I warmed up to her, especially when she realised how comfortable the lives of the poeple of ReDawn had been compared to Detritus.
The ending was heartbreaking but I also think, from a strictly plot perspective, that if the National Assembly Leaders including Jorgen's parents hadn't died, the situation would be far worse than simply stagnant. I understand the National Assembly's motivations and I would have probably followed the same actions, but it would have led the planet to, at best, submission, at worst, destruction.
The final story was the story I wanted so badly! I had read a few spoilers so I knew of Jorgen's parents' death, but his trauma from witnessing it in such a way went deep. I really hope he'll get a nap soon, but I'm also so proud of everything he's accomplished!! Vice Admiral at....scud, not even 18yo? And mindblades? Spin is going to pop the ring soon.
Also, the slugs have become some of my favourite characters. They're adorable.
