Did You Ever Have a Family by Bill Clegg

4.0

I listened to the audiobook, and it was a case study in how a bad narrator can absolutely fucking ruin a good story. Listening to this was an absolute slog, even when the story itself was really good. There were some great emotional bits in the story that were totally ruined by the author’s completely monotone voice. I re-learned a valuable lesson: If it says “read by the author,” listen to a sample first, and be prepared to abort and read the text instead if it’s dreadful. Trudging through bad audio is just not worth the time you might save.
