Typically for me, with a historical fiction set so long ago, I feel distant from the narrative and find it difficult to really connect with the characters as if they were real people. But with this book, I was immediately drawn in and everything was written so accessibly that I was perfectly immersed in the story!

The story really naturally grows outward from the initial witch hunt scare, building in really unexpected ways.
I do wish certain ideas and the romantic relationship were explored a bit more, but the book didn’t come across as trying to be super deep, which makes me really not mind that lack of expansion.
