The Fold by Peter Clines

3.0

Requires turning off your brain to enjoy.

There's a lot here that doesn't make sense:
1) a genius with an eidetic memory who misses obvious plot points.
2) a science experiment with government funding that can't show results or follow the scientific method.
3) a top-secret lab with only 7 employees that doesn't receive visitors but has a receptionist (this one bothered me the most, as my book club can attest to. WHAT DOES SHE DO???).
4) a sci-fi story that turns into (for no reason at all)
Spoilera Lovecraftian-horror complete with flying Cthulhu monster
.
5) sexy descriptions of all heterosexual female characters; much describing of hair. The one gay character is a Trekkie, so that covers her personality and no other characterization is needed. /s

But with all that going on, I still read this book quickly in one sitting. It was entertaining and I wanted to know what happened next!

Character development: 1 star (this was a Bella Swan situation)
Story: 3 stars
Writing/Prose: 2 stars
Fun factor: 4 stars
