The Scorch Trials by James Dashner

2.0

Some thoughts I had while reading The Scorch Trials:

1. Thomas sure does sleep a lot
2. The author keeps repeating how confused and devastated Thomas is
3. This dude is literally fighting for his life and he’s more concerned about some girl we still know nothing about
4. I know his memory was wiped. I know.
5. “He didn’t care about Jack.” Me neither because he really wasn’t introduced, and had no background or personality
6. Dude falling in love again with someone we don’t know
7. Thomas’ character has not grown in any way since book 1. He’s still scared and confused about the world and his love for this mystery chick (now chicks)
8. The first book had an air of mystery and suspense (What are these kids doing in a maze? How are they going to escape?) Now I just feel like I’m being dragged along
9. The group gets separated and this is a perfect opportunity to break up the monotony of Thomas’ fear and love induced stupor (3rd person pov allows this) but I don’t think we’ll get to see what the others are doing while he plays house
