Invincible, Vol. 14: The Viltrumite War by Robert Kirkman

5.0

With a title like "The Viltrumite War", you just knew that Vol. 14 was going to deliver. And it did. It really did. The conflict herein has been building since the very beginning of this comic book, and includes the core players that we've grown to love. Mark, Nolan, Oliver, Allen the Alien. Thaedus and the Coalition of Planets have beeen preparing for war. The Viltrumites were born for it. And the ensuing chaos is brilliant.

In the midst of unsurprisingly brutal and suitably intense battles between people like Nolan, Mark, Conquest, Thragg, and other immensely heavy hitters of Invincible, Kirkman manages to keep personal, human stories at the forefront of this book. And the end of the war is unconventional in a way that feels... unsatisfying is the wrong word, but it feels necessary. Perfect for making readers wonder what it will mean for the future of the comic.

The war is over, but we didn't win.
