I re-read Nimona in time for the film (which I went to an early screening of). I forgot how raw this book could be at times!
I'm not going to compare the two - Nimona the film is coming to us at a much-different time, a time when queer people need more uplifting, hopeful stories from mainstream, non-indie sources, even if they are a tad toned down as a result. Nimona the comic book was made by a closeted young adult, started out completely indie, and echoes the side of our collective queerness that is tired of being hurt. It's wacky! It's fun! It's heartbreaking???
