Beneath the Wheel by Hermann Hesse

3.0

A sad story.

I would rate it a three because, personally, the narrator was too tedious and speaking lengthily, and yk how the main character wasnt able to live his life, I feel like because it was being narrated in 3rd person, it's like doubling the effect that the main character cant even tell his own story. But rating it a 4 cause it's a great story nonetheless.

It felt too much like I was reading a lengthy tragic narrative of a boy. I wish there were more conversations that happened. I felt like I drifted fast forward into his life.

"A soul that is ruined in the bud will frequently return to the springtime of its beginnings and its promise-filled childhood, as though it could discover new hopes there and retie the broken threads of life."

This line spoke to me so much. Starting again, to the familiar when things were good. Thinking maybe, i've missed a step, and starting over would lead to something better.
