This was a good installment. I love Rose's mom (and

her dad, once he gets introduced somewhere around book 4).

The action was exciting and fast paced. Rose deals with a lot emotionally in this book, with her mom, romance, feeling like Lissa is being taken away from her, and the heart-wrenching end. It was definitely heavy in places, but still had its moments of humor. The plot also progresses in terms of

Moroi training to use magic offensively and meeting Adrian, another spirit user who can do different things than Lissa, as well as Rose taking away Lissa's darkness and having to deal with it herself.

It was a good sequel to book 1, and I look forward to rereading book 3 soon. 4.5 stars.
