Junji Ito's Cat Diary: Yon & Mu Collector's Edition by Junji Ito
4.0
This was really cute! I'm glad a friend recommended it to me. Knowing Junji Ito's style, I wasn't sure if this would still lean into horror, and I was glad to find that it did while still maintaining a light-hearted and realistic feel. It's much more of a series of short comics than a full, connected book, but I think the title indicates that. Selfishly, I would have loved even more fleshing out of the silly bits, but I really can't fault this for what it is. The cats are cute and funny, and I love the way Ito characterizes his own self and wife as heightened versions of themselves. The special edition I read had the glow-in-the-dark cover and extra photos and interviews that were extra fun, too. I definitely enjoyed this and will be having someone else read it before the library demands it back.
