From Here to the Great Unknown by Lisa Marie Presley, Riley Keough

dark emotional inspiring reflective sad fast-paced

3.75

It feels wrong to give this a rating, mainly due to the fact it was so personal and more of Keough’s wish to complete this for LMP and memorialise her mothers words, I can’t imagine what that must have been like for her and I am astonished by her strength to do so.  This book feels unfinished, but I think that’s okay, and reflects what real life is like. Sometimes we lose people too soon and that is an unchanging fact. As someone who grew up with a parent addicted to pain medication and watched them in a lot of ways be a victim to how for a long time the health system pushed pain medication, my heart breaks for LMP and Keough. Addiction is a private illness for many, shrouded in shame and guilt for their loved ones, and hearing LMP speak about how drugs infiltrated her family just breaks my heart. This wasn’t perfect but I am so glad I read it, and seriously listen to the audiobook version, both Robert’s and Keough performed beautifully; and hearing LMP speak in interviews throughout was really grounding for her story.
