The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot

3.0

3.5/5
Cheesy and quite predictable. But it was still really enjoyable and I love Mia as a character even though she can be very naive (which is intentional).
I initially bought this book series because I love the films with Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews. (I think the mix of comedy and drama is on a perfect scale). Queen Clarisse, in the films, is a loving, conscienous and wonderful woman who is a pivotal character, whom I love. However, Grandmere Clarisse in the book is definitely NOT like Julie Andrew's Clarisse, which is upsetting and irritating as I think the films did a great job of the positive relationship between her and Mia. I think the book lacks this relationship significantly, however I am hoping that their relationship grows in the following books considering this one only took place over about 3-4 weeks.

P.S. MIA'S DAD IS ALIVE...WTF!?!
