The beginning is kind of a drag because you have to get through learning about the protagonists relationship with the cartel boss. Once it gets to them meeting the two sisters and actually making progress it becomes enjoyable. I think this book gets a misconception of being an immigrant story when it's more of a refugee journey. We never do really learn how she lives and gets by in the states.
