Bee Quest by Dave Goulson

5.0

When I got to the end of this book, I was disappointed, I just wanted it to go on. It is a very enjoyable account of several field trips by the author, which are woven together to give insights into key aspects of bumblebee ecology and conservation. The former was presented interestingly and accessibly and when speaking of conservation he is not afraid to criticize the policies that have led to declining populations both in agriculture and planning. That is all very well, but the real joy of the book is in the way he communicates his enthusiasm for bees. It is a book that makes you want to rush out and start identifying the bumble (and other) bees in yoru back garden and beyond. And what could be better than that?
