Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl by Andrea Lawlor
1.5
Okay. So the beginning was way too graphic for me in a way that I don’t think was adding anything to the story?
Then the middle was actually quite interesting.
The ending? Who was she.
Also I’m sorry no chapter needs to be that long.
I was confused by the little stories. Those were the best written and most interesting but I’m not sure how they fit into it? Maybe I’m stupid idk.
Also all the references were so so random ?! Who are all these singers and movies and whatever ? I don’t like books that do this. It irritates me because I’m not going to go look up every artist this person decides to name.
I think that there was lots of potential. The magical realism of it all had so much going for it. But the writing style was messy and boring.
Maybe I’m the wrong kind of gay? I just don’t get books like this. The transness of it all also felt very binary. And maybe that was the point? As a nonbinary individual I was left feeling v confused
