Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh

3.0

I enjoyed this book, overall, I just had a few issues

1. Ok so Elena is given the job, via death threat to her family, to hunt a rogue archangel down. And then she meets archangel of New York, Raphael, the one who demanded her expertise, and for half the book nothing happens. Oh, manufactured sexual tension occurs. Elena is angered and has zero self preservation, but no worries Raphael is taken with her warrior skills and brazen. She’s constantly wet and he’s constantly hard. They talk, still nothing happens. Until 50% into it, Elena is given a chance to lead the investigation with her killer nose. Yup, she’s a blood hound, and can actually smell more than just vampires. The whole first half of the book is dialogue about their attraction, is it to be believed. Yes, yes they want to bone.

2. Everyone she’s in contact with wants to have sex with her and or kill her. Everyone. Raphael is just the loudest and has the most power.

3. She daydreams a lot. Like seriously, she’s constantly going off into a nightmare of her past and being “woken” from her reverie by outside forces. At one point she’s driving towards a scent when she begins remembering something and a loud bang occurs. She gets out and wonders if she’s hit something. Omg I thought, does this happen so often she actually hurts people? It’s so often. She’s constantly fixating on a memory and losing real world consciousness.

4. The book is so binary, so damn straight! Like the men are so masculine and the women are so feminine. And it’s mentioned often. Elena feels more feminine when she sees Raphael’s masculinity. When Demitri mentions men are attracted to him, it’s like a joke, yeah men are attracted but he’s so much more into women. Even the bad guy, Uram is all about young, virginal woman as his favorite. Talk about stereotype.

Having said all that, I did enjoy it. I’m curious in the ending, how Elena and Raphael will work together. I mean they’re not equals but that won’t stop Elena from demanding it and Raphael from giving into her.
