The Edge of Great (Julie and the Phantoms, Season One Novelization) by Micol Ostow

2.0

Man, does it feel wrong to give this book a low rating. Julie And The Phantoms is my comfort series and when I heard it was canceled, it broke my heart. That being said though, I need to explain why just two stars.

I noticed throughout the book that a lot of scenes were missing. Edge Of Great and Perfect Harmony were not in the book, two fan favorites. It felt like I was experiencing only 50% of the story.

What also stood out to me was that several lines from the book are either timed wrong (the dialogue happens later but is placed earlier) or it is a complete different conversation between characters. I get that you want to give a creative twist on an already existing story, but this way, I was left confused half the time. It obstructed a clear flow through the story, even if I would have never watched the show.

That being said though, I do like that there are stills of the series as photos in the middle of the book. The pictures used captivate what the show’s vibes are.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I will start my 8th rewatch of Julie And The Phantoms.
