This was a painful read, it was a DIFFICULT read. Should it be banned in high schools? Absolutely NOT!
You can not erase history by making the stories unavailable to new generations to read. The black community can only speak to the authenticity of the experience within its pages. As I am not part of that community, I am not rating the story.
