Fortune Cookie by Heather J. Wood

5.0

Thoroughly enjoyed this novel in diary form, set in my hometown of Montreal. It’s funny, quietly subversive, with great dialogue and small crystal moments of clarity. It gave me the sense of a literary slide show: click, take this peek into the life of a young woman in an alarming world; click, now look at this one... I admire Woods’ spare style and the way she artfully handles subtext. Well done.
