Crank Palace by James Dashner

2.0

My advice to anyone who wants to read it: read it for the nostalgia, not the quality. That said, the last two chapters and the epilogue are great and made me remember why I was so invested in the series as a kid. I just wish it was written better, as Dashner relied a lot on telling over showing, which is a poor move when trying to describe a descent into madness.
SpoilerMay not be a spolier, but I want to be safe. The signs of Newt's growing "insanity" have brief mentions in the first half, but only at halfway through is there any sort of progress on this front, annd it feels extremely abrupt. In short, him becoming a Crank is not paced well.
