The Keeper of Night by Kylie Lee Baker

1.0

DNF at about 60%. I just can't finish this book. I was going to try. I got it back from the library, listened to an hour more of the audiobook and... no. For me, I really just could not get into the world of The Keeper of Night. There is something so weirdly mundane about it. I can't understand why the characters are so bound to the physical world. They are supposed to be freaking grim reapers and gods of death! Why are they in bedrooms with physical possessions? Why does the character just look half-Japanese and half-English? Why is there so much racism? Why does her brother have a cat? Why does she have a brother? Apparently grim reapers reproduce sexually like everybody else. WHY IS SHE LIMITED BY NOT UNDERSTANDING HUMAN LANGUAGES!? This makes no sense. The author could have done literally anything, anything at all with this story. But to me it just reads like a "magical school" type story where the main characters power is death. And I don't want to read that. I'm going to have to pass.
