Carrie Soto Is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid

4.0

Taylor Jenkins Reid’s has a superior talent at creating characters with such depth they feel real. Their stories, their struggles, their lives all feel real. I couldn’t relate to Carrie Soto more, besides the fact I have 0 athletic ability but I resonate with every part of her and I did not want to put this book down.

The reason it’s not a five for me, is because TJR always just misses the mark just a little when it comes to writing diverse characters. The inserts of the Spanish dialogue were a little heavy and too frequent that it didn’t feel like she was making a diverse character worth representation but proving she could write a latina character (which she had received criticism about before). I speak Spanish and I felt like there was other ways to do this right.

Nonetheless a very good book and one that had left me with a book hangover.
