I really enjoyed this book until the twist at the end. The past two books spent so much time building these characters and making the reader know and care for them. For this main character to go against everything they stood for, all their values, their friends, their lover, it just felt...so...wrong.

I really hoped that there would be an additional twist that would redeem this character. The whole thing had been a huge mistake, misunderstanding. Maybe there was a powerful spell over them. Something to explain the total change in this character that would make more sense.

The author tries to explain that what was done was done for love. However, how could that character have hoped to have kept their love if their betrayal were ever to become known? And it would have become known because how would the change in wealth and statis be explained away? The lover and the friends are not stupid, they're the best investigators.

I also missed the other characters that were mysteriously very absent from this book after holding such big parts in the previous books.

I loved the hunt and the new characters. There were other twists that panged the heart in sadness, happiness, and frustration that made for a wild ride.
