Grave Dance by Kalayna Price

3.0

Grave Dance is the second novel in the Alex craft series and the follow up to Grave Witch. It seems since the events of the first novel, Alex has undergone some …. changes. Like, a sensitivity to iron. It seems her fae blood has been awakened, and with her unique talents everyone wants a piece of her. Her foray into faerie leads her to discover some interesting information about her ancestry, and a certain queen has something that Alex really wants. Even if it confuses her.

Aside from her personal life, Alex is back to assisting the Nekros police department on a strange homicide case. Several left feet have been uncovered. Only left feet. Unfortunately, the case is not so easily solved by just raising the shade and asking the victim who they are and how they died, since a foot is not enough of a body to raise a shade. Maybe if she had some help….

Just venturing out of her house becomes a bit perilous for Alex in this novel. Several constructs attack out of nowhere, each “illusion” more dangerous from the last. The Anti-black magic unit is not making much headway on finding out what these constructs are made of and how to stop them. But Alex might have an idea.

While this novel is definitely entertaining, I did enjoy the first novel more. I felt like there were many seemingly unimportant scenes, and the novel had a bit of a slower pace than the first. It does seem like the supernatural world around Alex is expanding however, and I can only guess that things are going to get more exciting from here on out!
