What can I say that hasn’t been said before about this delightful series? What praises can I heap onto Robin Hobb’s writing that hasn’t been cited more than a hundred times prior to this review? While I do not believe I have anything to add, I can give a bit of advice to the impatient reader…

Yes. It is slow paced, but hold out, as it is also most definitely worth it. Carving out characters you’ll grow to care for, building a world for them to inhabit, creating magic systems- all this takes time. Enjoy those unhurried portions as you would a good slice of life read. Sink into the pages.

Sooner than you know it the pacing picks up, and leaves you wanting for the 2nd installment in this much loved trilogy. In my opinion, this is a must read for fantasy fans, as well as those interested in dipping a toe into the genre- happy reading!
