The Vanishing Stair by Maureen Johnson

4.0

More of a 3.5. It was a solid 3 until the second half. Disappointing

After the events of Truly Devious Stevie has been shipped back home by her parents, but she’s so desperate to go back to school and keep trying to solve the mystery that she makes a deal with the devil, also known as Edward King, the father of the boy she kissed.

I read The Vanishing Stair on audiobook, which was good. The narration was just standard, it wasn’t groundbreaking but it wasn’t terrible so I was happy.

I spent about the first third of this book feeling really annoyed. I really enjoyed Truly Devious, given I don’t really like these kinds of books that’s a big thing, but the vibe of the start of this novel just felt completely off. It felt like they just kept talking about how each character was “quirky”.
