I picked this up after reading The Martian back in 2016. I’m happy to report I loved Project Hail Mary as much as I did Weir’s first novel. While the premise of “one man alone in space” is a familiar one, this story went in a totally different direction that was every bit as gripping. Weir has created another wonderful contained story that is gripping, tense, hilarious, and at times quite emotional. I grew to love Ryland Grace quickly and was very invested in his predicaments and solutions. (Willem Dafoe voice) You know, I’m something of a scientist myself, so I enjoyed those aspects of the book greatly too, though as I got deeper into the story, I cared less about them than I did Ryland. Highly recommend for those who enjoyed The Martian or any sci-fi generally.
