Best YA I've read in a while! I've watched the shadow and bone netflix series and since the crows were my favourite part I decided to give this book a go, and oh boy I was in for a ride (a very gripping the edge of my seat kind of ride).
I will just begin with my only big complain which were the ages of the characters. I understand it's a YA book, but for me it made more sense to imagine the characters a little older, more in their 20s, because there's no way a group of teenagers would be hired for such a big job or show the level of maturity they all had.
I didn't read the Shadow and Bone trilogy beforehand, so I was afraid I would be missing out on some parts of the story, but if I did, I didn't even notice.
I think I enjoyed everything about the book: the writing, how the characters backstories were written without messing with the pace of the action, how it's mostly serious but also with a very good sense of humor, and mostly I loved the characters.
Since I've watched the show, I was already expecting to like Kaz, Inej and Jasper, but I genuinely loved every character. They each are flawed and different from one another, but interesting and relevant for the story in their own way. They all have their own trauma and struggles, reading their POV with their thoughts had me almost screaming at some parts (I've highlighted so many parts of the book!). And I really loved the relationships between them, not just the romantic ones (Kaz and Inej <3) but the friendships (I wasn't expecting the cute moments between Inej and Nina, but it was so nice) and how they carried themselves around each other. I just want to hug them all (except Kaz for obvious reasons)!
The story is about a heist which is really the most chaotic triple date ever, but that's just fine!
